This Privacy Policy explains how My Witness Tree (“MWT,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the My Witness Tree website and mobile application (collectively, the “Services”). Because My Witness Tree is built around personal reflection and meaningful experiences, we take special care to handle information thoughtfully and responsibly.My Witness Tree is designed as a private reflection and journaling tool that allows users to record meaningful experiences, observe patterns over time, and, if they choose, selectively share certain experiences with trusted individuals. This Privacy Policy applies to both the website and the mobile application and describes how information is handled across both platforms.

Our Privacy Commitments

We follow several core principles when it comes to privacy. We collect only the information necessary to operate and improve the Services. We do not access, read, or review your personal journal entries or uploaded media without your explicit consent. We retain personal information only for as long as it is reasonably required for legitimate purposes. We aim to be transparent about our practices, and we respect your right to control your information, including what is shared, what remains private, and what is permanently deleted.

Information We Collect

Information collected through the Services may be provided directly by you, collected automatically as you use the Services, or obtained through third-party services you choose to connect. Certain information is required to create and maintain an account, while other information is optional.

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect basic account information such as your name and email address, and in some cases a telephone number, password, or passcode. This information is used solely for account creation, authentication, account management, and communication related to the Services. Providing this information is required to create an account.

Optional Demographic Information (Sensitive Data)

During account creation or within account settings, you may optionally choose to provide demographic information such as religious or spiritual identity, age range, and gender. Providing this information is completely voluntary and is not required to use the Services. You may skip these selections or modify or remove them at any time without losing access to core functionality.When provided, this information is stored as part of your account profile and is used only to support features you choose to use within the Services. We do not intentionally aggregate or analyze religious or spiritual identity information for academic research or demographic analysis. This information is not used for advertising, individualized profiling, or automated decision-making about you as a person.

User Content

The Services allow you to create personal journal entries, reflections, notes, and upload media such as images or audio. This content is private by default. We do not access, analyze, or review individual entries or media for research, analytics, or marketing purposes. Journal entries and associated content are protected using end-to-end encryption, and only you control access to your personal content unless you explicitly choose to share it.

User-Initiated Sharing and Witness Communities

My Witness Tree also offers a private community feature referred to as “Witness Communities.” This feature allows you to selectively share specific experiences with other individual users on a one-to-one basis. Sharing is entirely optional and is initiated and controlled by you.When you choose to share an experience, the text, images, audio, or other media associated with that experience become accessible only to the recipient you select. You may modify or revoke access to shared experiences at any time. My Witness Tree does not independently share user content, does not make shared experiences public, and does not monitor or review shared content except as necessary to provide the functionality of the Services or to comply with legal obligations. Users are responsible for the content they choose to share and for selecting the recipients with whom they share their experiences.

Biometric Authentication

If supported by your device, you may choose to enable biometric authentication, such as fingerprint or facial recognition, to secure access to your account. Biometric information is processed and stored solely on your device by your operating system. My Witness Tree does not receive or store biometric data.

Payment Information

When you make purchases through the website or complete in-app purchases, payment information such as credit card details is processed by third-party payment providers. My Witness Tree does not store full payment card information. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status and validate in-app purchases. RevenueCat receives subscription status, transaction identifiers, and other purchase-related information necessary to provide these services, but it does not receive your payment card information. We retain limited purchase records as necessary for transaction history, customer support, and legal or accounting obligations.

Usage, Diagnostics, and Technical Data

As you use the Services, we automatically collect certain technical and usage information. This may include IP address, device type, operating system, app usage data, and crash or performance logs. This information is used to operate the Services, improve stability and performance, understand how features are used, enhance security, troubleshoot technical issues, and prevent fraud or misuse. Some of this information is collected and analyzed through PostHog for application analytics and product improvement. We may infer approximate location, such as country or region, based on IP address. We do not collect precise GPS location data.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

The website and Services may use cookies or similar technologies where necessary to provide core functionality and improve performance. These technologies are not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.

Third-Party Sign-In Services

If you choose to sign in using a third-party service such as Apple or Google, we receive basic profile information from that service, such as your name and email address, solely for authentication and account creation purposes.

Analytics and Product Improvement

My Witness Tree uses analytics tools, including PostHog, to help us understand how users interact with the Services, identify software issues, improve performance, and enhance the overall user experience.Analytics may include information such as device type, operating system, app version, session activity, feature usage, navigation patterns, crash reports, and other diagnostic or technical information. This information is used solely to operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Services.

Although users may voluntarily provide demographic information such as religious or spiritual identity, My Witness Tree does not intentionally conduct academic research or aggregate religious preference information for demographic or research purposes. We do not analyze the contents of private journal entries or uploaded media for analytics or research.

How We Use Information

Information collected through the Services is used to provide and maintain functionality, process payments, improve reliability and performance, comply with legal obligations, and protect users and the platform from fraud or abuse.

How Information Is Shared

We may share limited information with trusted third-party service providers who support the operation of the Services, including cloud hosting providers, payment processors, subscription management providers, analytics providers, deep linking providers, and email or messaging services. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and may use it only as necessary to provide services on behalf of My Witness Tree.Current service providers include:PostHog, which provides application analytics, diagnostics, and product improvement insights.RevenueCat, which manages subscription status and validates in-app purchases.Chottulink, which provides secure deep linking functionality that allows users to navigate directly to specific content within the App.

We may disclose information if required to do so by law, legal process, or governmental request, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of My Witness Tree, its users, or the public.

What We Do Not Do

We do not sell personal data. We do not share personal data for advertising purposes. We do not track users across apps or websites. We do not share personal content between users unless a user explicitly initiates and authorizes such sharing.

Data Retention and Deletion

My Witness Tree is designed to preserve the meaningful experiences users choose to record. We believe these experiences have lasting value, and we seek to preserve them whenever reasonably possible while respecting user privacy and account choices.If a user voluntarily deletes their account or submits a verified deletion request, personal data is retained only for the period necessary to process the request and no longer than thirty (30) days, after which all account data, journal entries, attachments, and associated content are permanently deleted.If a paid subscription ends because it is canceled or because payment cannot be successfully processed, the account will enter a thirty (30) day grace period beginning at the end of the current billing cycle. During this grace period, the account will remain accessible in a read-only state. Users may view and export their existing content or renew their subscription to restore full functionality. New entries, edits, and other premium functionality will be unavailable during this period.If the subscription is not renewed before the end of the grace period, all account data, journal entries, attachments, and associated content will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

Security

We take reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction. While no digital service can guarantee absolute security, we work continuously to strengthen our safeguards.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws to access your data, correct inaccuracies, request deletion, restrict or object to processing, receive a copy of your data, or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

Children’s Privacy

My Witness Tree is not directed to children under the age of 13 and does not permit children to create independent accounts.The Services may allow an adult account holder to create and manage child profiles under their own account. Child profiles are fully controlled by the adult account holder, and children do not independently access the Services. All data associated with a child profile is collected and managed at the direction of the adult account holder.We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children outside of a parent- or guardian-managed profile. Parents and legal guardians may review, modify, or delete child profile information at any time through the controlling account or by contacting us.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes materially affect how we process information based on consent, we will request renewed consent where required. We encourage users to review this policy periodically.
