Introduction
Your privacy is extremely important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how My Witness Tree ("MWT," "we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, stores, protects, and discloses information when you use the My Witness Tree mobile application (the "Services"). Because My Witness Tree is built around personal reflection and meaningful experiences, we take special care to handle information thoughtfully and responsibly.
My Witness Tree is designed as a private reflection and journaling tool that allows users to record meaningful experiences, observe patterns over time, and, if they choose, selectively share specific experiences with trusted individuals through private Witness Communities. This Privacy Policy applies to the My Witness Tree mobile application and describes how information is collected, used, disclosed, and protected through the Services.
Our Privacy Commitments
We follow several core principles when it comes to privacy. We collect only the information reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Services. We do not access, analyze, or review your private journal entries, uploaded media, or other user-created content for analytics, advertising, or marketing purposes. We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
We strive to be transparent about our information practices and respect your ability to control your information, including what you choose to share, what remains private, and when your account and associated information are permanently deleted.
Information We Collect
Information collected through the Services may be provided directly by you, collected automatically as you use the Services, or obtained through third-party services that you choose to connect. Some information is required to create and maintain your account and provide the Services, while other information is optional and provided at your discretion.
As you use the Services, we automatically collect certain technical and usage information necessary to operate, secure, maintain, and improve the Services. This information may include your device type, operating system, app version, language or locale, IP address, application lifecycle events, feature usage, navigation activity, crash reports, diagnostic information, and other technical information.
We use PostHog to better understand how the Services are used and to improve reliability, stability, usability, and performance. PostHog uses anonymous analytics identifiers and may derive an approximate geographic region (such as your country or region) from your IP address for analytics purposes. This location information is stored only within analytics records that are not linked to your personal identity and is not associated with your name, email address, journal entries, uploaded media, or other personal content.
We also use ChottuLink to provide deep-linking and attribution functionality. ChottuLink may receive limited technical information, including your device type, operating system, app version, language or locale, IP address, and, where applicable, an approximate geographic region derived from your IP address as necessary to provide those services.
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect basic account information, including your name, email address, and password or passcode. This information is used solely for account creation, authentication, account management, subscription administration, customer support, security, and communications related to the Services. Providing this information is required to create and maintain an account.
Optional Demographic Information
During account creation or within your account settings, you may optionally choose to provide information regarding your religious or spiritual identity. Providing this information is entirely voluntary and is not required to use the Services. You may decline to provide this information or modify or remove it at any time without affecting your access to the core functionality of the Services.
When provided, this information is stored as part of your account profile and is used only to support features that you choose to use within the Services. This information is not used for advertising, marketing, individualized profiling, or automated decision-making about you.
User Content
The Services allow you to create personal journal entries, reflections, notes, images, audio recordings, and other user-generated content. This content is private by default. We do not access, analyze, or review individual journal entries, uploaded media, or other user-created content for analytics, advertising, or marketing purposes.
Your content is protected using industry-standard encryption while it is transmitted between your device and our servers and while it is stored by the Services. Although My Witness Tree processes encrypted information to provide the functionality of the Services, the Services do not currently provide end-to-end encryption because information must be decrypted by authorized systems to provide synchronization, storage, sharing, account recovery, and other requested functionality.
You control access to your content. No journal entry or other user-created content is shared with another user unless you intentionally choose to share a specific experience through Witness Communities.
User-Initiated Sharing and Witness Communities
My Witness Tree offers a private sharing feature referred to as Witness Communities. This feature allows an adult account holder to establish a private Witness Community and selectively share specific experiences with individually invited members. Sharing is entirely optional and is initiated and controlled by the adult account holder.
Profiles created and managed under an adult account ("managed profiles") may access the adult account holder's Witness Community member list and may share experiences with members of that Community, subject to the permissions and controls established by the adult account holder. When an experience owned by a managed profile is shared, the Services identify the managed profile as the owner of that experience.
Witness Community members cannot share experiences directly with a managed profile. Experiences shared by another Community member must first be shared with the adult account holder before they may become accessible to a managed profile. All Witness Community functionality available to managed profiles operates through and remains under the authority and responsibility of the adult account holder.
When an experience is shared through an adult account or a managed profile, only the text, images, audio, or other media associated with that specific experience become accessible to the selected recipient or recipients. Shared experiences are never publicly available through the Services. My Witness Tree does not provide public blogs, public forums, public message boards, or public posting features.
The adult account holder remains responsible for all Community activity conducted through managed profiles, including content selection, sharing decisions, recipient selection, access to shared experiences, and permissions.
You may modify or revoke access to shared experiences at any time. My Witness Tree does not independently share user content, does not make shared experiences publicly available, and does not access or review shared content except when reasonably necessary to provide the Services, respond to user reports, comply with legal obligations, protect the security or safety of the Services or its users, investigate credible reports of violations of our Terms of Use or Community Guidelines, or otherwise enforce our legal rights.
Reporting Content and Community Controls
My Witness Tree is committed to maintaining a respectful and safe environment for users who choose to share experiences through Witness Communities.
If you believe a shared experience violates our Terms of Use, Community Guidelines, applicable law, or otherwise poses a safety concern, you may report the experience through the reporting tools provided within the Services. Reports are reviewed by authorized My Witness Tree personnel for the purpose of investigating potential violations, enforcing our Terms of Use, protecting users, and complying with applicable legal obligations.
To investigate a report, authorized personnel may access the reported experience and other information reasonably necessary to evaluate the report. Access is limited to the extent reasonably necessary to investigate the reported content, respond to the report, enforce our policies, or comply with legal obligations.
Users may end a Witness Community relationship at any time. Ending a relationship removes both users from each other's active Witness Community lists and revokes access to experiences previously shared through that relationship.
Users may also choose to end a Witness Community relationship and block the other user. While the block remains active, the blocked user cannot send new Witness Community invitations to the user who initiated the block. The user who initiated the block may view their blocked-user list and may remove the block at any time. Previously shared experiences are not displayed through the blocked-user list.
Biometric Authentication
If supported by your device, you may choose to enable biometric authentication, such as fingerprint or facial recognition, to help secure access to your account. Biometric information is processed and stored exclusively by your device's operating system. My Witness Tree does not collect, receive, store, or have access to your biometric information.
Payment Information
When you make an in-app purchase, payment information is processed by Apple or Google through their respective app stores. My Witness Tree does not receive or store your payment card number or other full payment card information.
We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions, validate purchases, and administer subscription entitlements. RevenueCat receives information necessary to provide these services, including your account name or email address, subscription status, purchase and renewal information, transaction identifiers, platform information, and other billing-related information provided by Apple or Google. RevenueCat does not receive access to your journal entries, uploaded media, Witness Community information, or other user-created content.
We retain limited purchase and subscription records as reasonably necessary for transaction history, customer support, fraud prevention, legal compliance, accounting obligations, and administration of the Services.
Similar Technologies
The Services may use similar technologies where reasonably necessary to provide core functionality, improve performance, maintain security, and support navigation within the Services. These technologies are not used for advertising, behavioral advertising, or cross-app tracking.
Third-Party Sign-In Services
If you choose to sign in using a third-party authentication provider, such as Apple or Google, we receive limited account information made available by that provider, such as your name and email address, solely for authentication, account creation, account management, and operation of the Services.
Analytics and Product Improvement
My Witness Tree uses analytics tools, including PostHog, to help us understand how users interact with the Services, identify software issues, improve performance, and enhance the overall user experience.
Analytics information may include anonymous user identifiers, feature usage, screen views, navigation activity, application lifecycle events, crash reports, device type, operating system, app version, language or locale, and an approximate geographic region (such as country or region) derived from an IP address. Geographic information collected through PostHog is stored within analytics records that are not linked to your personal identity and is used solely to help us understand how the Services are used, improve reliability, identify trends, and enhance the user experience.
PostHog is configured to avoid collecting personally identifiable information such as names, email addresses, private journal entries, uploaded media, touch locations, session recordings, and session replays. Analytics information is used solely to operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Services.
We do not analyze or use the contents of your private journal entries, uploaded media, or other user-created content for analytics, advertising, or marketing purposes.
How We Use Information
We use information collected through the Services to:
create, authenticate, and manage user accounts;
provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Services;
synchronize and store user content;
process purchases and manage subscriptions;
provide customer support;
maintain the security and integrity of the Services;
diagnose technical issues and improve reliability and performance;
· investigate reports of inappropriate or unlawful content, enforce our Terms of Use and Community Guidelines, and protect the safety and integrity of the Services;
prevent fraud, abuse, unauthorized access, and other misuse of the Services;
comply with legal obligations; and
protect the rights, safety, and property of My Witness Tree, its users, and others where permitted or required by law.
How Information Is Shared
We may share limited information with trusted third-party service providers that support the operation of the Services. These providers perform services on our behalf, including cloud hosting, subscription management, analytics, deep linking, email delivery, and other technical services necessary to operate and maintain My Witness Tree. These providers are contractually obligated to safeguard the information they receive and may use it only as necessary to perform services for My Witness Tree.
Our current service providers include:
PostHog, which provides application analytics, diagnostics, and product improvement insights using anonymous identifiers and technical usage information.
RevenueCat, which manages subscriptions, validates in-app purchases, and administers subscription entitlements.
ChottuLink, which provides deep-linking and attribution services that allow users to navigate directly to specific content within the Services. ChottuLink receives limited technical and device information, including IP address and, where applicable, an approximate geographic region derived from the IP address, as necessary to provide these services.
Cloud hosting, storage, email, and other infrastructure providers that assist in securely operating the Services.
We may access and review reported content when reasonably necessary to investigate alleged violations of our Terms of Use or Community Guidelines, respond to user reports, protect the safety of users, or comply with applicable legal obligations. Access to reported content is limited to authorized personnel with a legitimate need to perform these responsibilities.
We may also disclose information when required by applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, property, or security of My Witness Tree, our users, or others; investigate suspected fraud or illegal activity; enforce our Terms of Use; or otherwise comply with applicable legal obligations.
What We Do Not Do
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not share your personal information for advertising purposes.
We do not track your activity across third-party apps or websites for advertising purposes.
We do not analyze your private journal entries, uploaded media, or other user-created content for advertising, marketing, or analytics.
We do not make your journal entries or shared experiences publicly available.
We do not share your personal content with other users unless you intentionally choose to share a specific experience through Witness Communities.
Data Retention and Deletion
My Witness Tree is designed to help users preserve the meaningful experiences they choose to record. We believe these experiences have lasting value and seek to preserve them whenever reasonably appropriate while respecting user privacy, subscription choices, and account decisions.
Account Deletion
If you voluntarily delete your account or submit a verified account deletion request, your account is immediately deactivated and you are signed out of the Services. Your account then enters a thirty (30) day recovery period during which it is unavailable for normal use. During this recovery period, you may contact My Witness Tree Support to request restoration of your account.
If no restoration request is received before the recovery period expires, your account and associated personal information, journal entries, reflections, uploaded media, attachments, and other user-created content will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
Subscription Changes and Grace Periods
If a paid subscription ends because it is canceled or because payment cannot be successfully processed, the account enters a thirty (30) day grace period beginning at the end of the current billing cycle. During this period, the account remains accessible in a limited, read-only state. You may view or export your existing content or renew your subscription to restore full functionality. Creating new entries, editing existing entries, and other premium functionality remain unavailable during the grace period.
If you change from a Family Plan to an Individual Plan, all Family Plan features, including managed profiles, remain fully available throughout the remainder of the current billing cycle and the applicable thirty (30) day grace period. During this time, you may restore or upgrade to a qualifying Family Plan subscription without interruption to managed-profile functionality or loss of managed-profile data.
Users who do not intend to restore a qualifying subscription are strongly encouraged to export any experiences, journal entries, reflections, media, attachments, managed-profile content, or other information they wish to preserve before the applicable grace period expires.
If a qualifying subscription is not restored before the end of the applicable grace period:
Individual accounts will be permanently deleted following subscription expiration.
For Family Plan downgrades, all managed profiles and the information associated with those managed profiles will be permanently deleted, while the Individual account holder will retain access only to information associated with their own account.
Once deletion has occurred, deleted information cannot be recovered.
Legal Retention
Certain limited information may be retained for a longer period where reasonably necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, maintain security, or satisfy legitimate accounting or recordkeeping requirements.
Security
We take reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
Information transmitted between your device and our systems is encrypted in transit using industry-standard encryption. Information stored by the Services is encrypted at rest using industry-standard security measures.
Although we continually work to strengthen our safeguards, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Accordingly, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, including the right to:
access the personal information we maintain about you;
request correction of inaccurate information;
request deletion of your personal information;
object to or restrict certain processing;
receive a copy of certain personal information in a portable format; and
withdraw consent where processing is based on your consent.

Children's Privacy
My Witness Tree is not directed to children under the age of 13 and does not permit children to create independent accounts.
The Services may allow an adult account holder to create and manage child profiles or other managed profiles under the adult account holder's own account. Managed profiles are not independent accounts and operate under the authority and responsibility of the adult account holder.
Managed profiles may access functionality made available through the Services, including certain Witness Community functionality made available through the adult account holder's existing Witness Community. All information and activity associated with a managed profile are collected, managed, and controlled under the adult account holder's account.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children outside of a parent- or guardian-managed profile. Adult account holders are responsible for all activity conducted through managed profiles, including content creation, sharing decisions, permissions, and account management.
Parents and legal guardians may review, modify, or delete managed-profile information at any time through the controlling account or by contacting My Witness Tree Support.
We may modify, expand, restrict, or discontinue functionality available to managed profiles to improve the Services, enhance user safety, protect privacy, or comply with applicable law.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Services, applicable law, or our information practices.
If a revision materially changes how we process information where your consent is required, we will request renewed consent before those changes become effective. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to remain informed about how we protect your information.
